Matt Folsom joined the West Valley athletic team as the Sports Information Director in August, 2017 after 14 years in the same capacity at Sierra College in Rocklin. His responsibilities include the establishment, upgrading and maintenance of Viking social media and website, team and action photography, and public address announcing and the game-day experience. He is the NorCal Representative for the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA).

He has been the public address voice at numerous California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) championship events, including baseball, beach volleyball, men's and women's basketball, football, men's and women's soccer, softball, volleyball and men's and women's water polo. Matt has been a PA voice of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) football and boys' and girls' basketball championships since 2009 and the CCS baseball playoffs since 2018, and the CCS softball championships since 2022. He has been a game-day announcer at Cal St-Monterey Bay, Sacramento St., William Jessup University, the Big West Conference Women's Water Polo Championships, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Water Polo Championships, and the Sacramento Capitals World Team Tennis franchise. Matt has been the regular PA announcer/musical coordinator for the San José St. men's and women's water polo teams since 2017.

He is proud to have been the voice of the Sacramento Optimists High School All-Star Classics - baseball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls volleyball, and football - from 2005-2022, and was the PA announcer for the Kendall Arnett boys basketball tournament - the longest-running high school tournament west of the Mississippi - at Placer High School in Auburn from 2005-2022. He has been a multi-sport play-by-play announcer at KAHI radio in Auburn, CA, CoachesAid.com and SocCalCollegeSports.com and has been a sportswriter for Gold Country Media in the Sacramento area. Matt's photographs have been published on numerous websites, in the Auburn Journal, the Sacramento Bee, the Santa Cruz SentinelWrestling USA magazine, Swimming World magazine, Oklahoma University football's Sooner Spectator magazine and Florida University athletics' Gator Bait magazine.

He was the 2019 recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Two-Year College Grant Burger Media Award for outstanding volleyball media coverage. Matt received the Sierra College Staff Recognition Award in 2007 and was named the Barnes and Noble College Booksellers national Campus Outreach Award winner in 2008. He has been inducted into the Sierra College Athletic Hall of Fame twice, as an individual (2020) and as a member of the coaching staff of the 2014 softball state champions (2022).  

Matt grew up in Littleton, CO and played basketball and baseball at Tabor College in Kansas, Metro St. University in Denver and Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, CO, before graduating from Cal Poly Humboldt State University in 1981. He went to his first Denver Broncos game in 1961 and has been a fan ever since. Matt attended hundreds of Denver Rocket/Denver Nugget ABA and NBA games and has fond memories of watching Dr. J, Larry Jones, Bobby Jones, Ralph Simpson, Dan Issel, David Thompson, Spencer Haywood, Mel Daniels, Connie Hawkins and numerous other 1960's and '70's basketball icons.  Matt and his wife Karen were married in 1983 and live on the Westside in Santa Cruz. They have three adult children - Kaleigh, Natalie and Beau - and two grandchildren - Conor and Lynnea.
