For the second time in three weeks, the West Valley beach volleyball team's match with Gavilan came down to a winner-take-all third set in the 3's pairs between Vikings Kayla Keller and Hannah Reynoso and Rams Flo Tukuaoga and Katelyn Viray. Keller and Reynoso prevailed this time to clinch WVC's 3-2 match victory and boost the Vikings to the top spot in the Coast Conference with a 6-1 mark. After dropping the opening set 21-15, Keller and Reynoso took set two 21-15 and then dominated the third 15-5. The match's opening round ended 1-1 as Viking 4's Claire Danna and Gabriela Valencia stay undefeated against community college opponents with a 21-17, 21-11 win over Melissa Zanotto/Evelyn Clonts, and an injury to Shannon Greene forced a Greene/Lizhya Shoomoonof forfeit to Gavilan's Noel Chavarria/Lex Chavarria in the 5's. Rams Katia Dizon/Keona Stopper prevailed 21-17, 21-12 over Katrina Hochmuth/Rene Wash in the 2's and Viking 1's Kaylin Henderson/Mapuhola Sekona stayed unbeaten with a 21-12, 21-13 win over Mikaela Banda/Sarah Weiby. Emily Paxton/Angelica Reyna rallied for a 15-21, 21-16, 19-17 win over Zoe Harada/Adrianne Orahood in the exhibition 6's match. Earlier in the afternoon, the Vikings defeated Foothill 4-1. Henderson/Sekona took the 1's 21-13, 21-14 over Fiona Green/Iris Calderon; Hochmuth/Wash prevailed 21-19, 18-21, 15-8 in a tense 2's battle with Ally Pereira/Olivia Stubblefield; the 3's went to Keller/Reynoso 21-12, 21-10 over Hannah Rosen/Karina Lucero; Danna/Valencia took the 4's 21-16, 21-17 over Sydney Do/Alaina Valenzuela; Foothill's Sammie Sargent/Leanna Zamora outlast Greene/Shoomoonof 21-16, 21-17. The exhibition 6's match went to WVC's Emily Paxton/Angelica Reyna 21-12, 21-10 over Owls Chinatsu Kobayashi/Cece Oliveira.
