On a clear, but decidedly un-beach-like 50 degree day, the West Valley beach volleyball team opened the 2022 season with wins over San Joaquin Delta and the College of Marin. The Vikings swept Delta 5-0 in the afternoon opener and then held off Marin 4-1 in the late match.
WVC finished with straight-set sweeps in all four of its matches with the Mustangs:
1: Katie Kishton/Flor Porras (WVC) defeat Savannah Labarre/Miekayla Surnip (SJD): 21-11, 21-10
2: Taylor Tullo/Elia Duenas (WVC) defeat Kiana Day/Ellie Crowell (SJD): 21-11, 21-15
3: Camdyn Albrecht/Alina Valenti (WVC) defeat Gianna Mora/Caryssa McKeon (SJD): 21-3, 21-8
4: Keilli Voss/Kate Blackwell (WVC) defeat Trinity Sutton/Emma Miller (SJD): 21-11, 21-14
5: West Valley wins by forfeit
Marin, coming off a win over Fresno City on the far courts, played the Vikings to a 1-1 tie after the first wave (2's and 4's). WVC took all three of the second wave matches in straight sets to clinch the win:
1: Katie Kishton/Flor Porras (WVC) defeat Riley Geary/Rachel Roher (M): 21-14, 21-12
2: Taylor Tullo/Elia Duenas (WVC) defeat Karissa Moya/Haleigh Brown (M): 21-19, 21-19
3: Camdyn Albrecht/Alina Valenti (WVC) defeat Kailani Kwan-Sy (M): 21-8, 21-11
4: Isabella Fraga/Gea Foggetti (M) defeat Keilli Voss/Kate Blackwell (WVC): 21-19, 21-18
