West Valley beach volleyball maintained its grip on second place in the ultra-competitive Coast Conference with home wins over Hartnell and Monterey Peninsula.
The Vikings (7-4, 5-1 Coast) broke a three-way logjam behind conference leader Fresno City (12-2, 6-0) with a 4-1 win over Hartnell (8-5, 4-2) and a tense 3-2 victory over MPC (7-4, 4-2).
WVC 1's Sophie Ehret/ Alex Franklin and 4's Rowynn Funk/Francesca Zanotti each picked up a pair of match wins, while 2's Amelie Moya/Taylor Vales won a match-clinching three-set thriller against the Lobos.
The Vikings travel to Main Beach in Santa Cruz Friday (3/22) for their annual rivalry dual against Cabrillo (2-8, 1-5). On the horizon looms a home match against Fresno City March 29. First serve for both matches is 10:00am.
