The West Valley baseball team grabbed a 1-0 fourth-inning lead, but San Mateo added solo runs in the 5th, 7th and 8th to escape Valhalla with a 3-1 win Saturday. Jonathan Teschner roped an RBI double to stake the Vikings (14-17, 7-5 Coast-Golden Gate) to a 1-0 lead. Starter Erik Peterson kept the Bulldogs (19-11, 8-4) off the board until the fifth before exiting after giving up two runs on seven hits with four K's in 6 2/3 innings. Jared Reupert and Steven Grizzle both finished the day 2-3. The Vikings host crosstown rival Mission (23-6, 10-2) Tuesday (4/9) and Thursday (4/11). First pitch for both is 2:30pm.
