A two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth came up one run short, as the West Valley baseball team fell 4-3 to Butte Friday at Valhalla.

Trailing 4-1, the Vikings (1-4) got an RBI ground rule double over the left field fence from Jared Reupert that scored Henry Wright, who had reached a batter earlier on his own ground rule double to center. A Jonathan Teschner single knocked in Reupert and Curran Ozawa-Burns got to first on a passed ball after a swinging strike out. Cole Murchison's sharp grounder to first ended the Viking threat and the game.

Wright was 2-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Kyle Riveron went 2-4 with a double, and Teschner finished 2-4 with an RBI. Chas Brown hurled four scoreless innings in relief of starter Mason Mooney.

WVC and Butte (2-3) take the field at Valhalla Saturday in the finale of the three-game series. First pitch is noon.
