Some timely hitting lifted the West Valley baseball team to its fifth straight win, a 4-1 victory at Cabrillo Saturday.

The Vikings (9-8) avenged a Feb. 11 loss to the Seahawks (9-7) and sends them into Tuesday's Coast-North opener against City College of San Francisco (2-12) on a roll.

Cabrillo struck first Saturday, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the third, but the Vikings got the equalizer in the top of the fourth. Jared Reupert ripped a leadoff triple and came home on Steven Grizzle's RBI groundout to second.

WVC pushed across the winning run in the seventh on a Pako Vehikite single that drove in Jonathan Teschner. Teschner provided two insurance runs in the eighth, driving in Grizzle and Evan Meier with a two-run single.

West Valley outhit the Seahawks 9-5 behind a 2-3, two-RBI day from Teschner and 2-4 outings from Grizzle and Meier. Mason Mooney picked up his third win of the season, scattering four hits, striking out four and handing out no walks in six innings.

While the Vikings and the Rams open the Coast Tuesday (3/3) at Valhalla, it will be a Ram home game because of CCSF venue issues. The teams will meet again Thursday (3/5) at Valhalla in the official Coast-North home opener for the Vikings. First pitch for both games is 2:00pm.
