The West Valley baseball team recorded its most efficient offensive outing of the year, scoring 18 runs on 19 hits in an 18-2 rout of City College of San Francisco Thursday at Valhalla.
It was the seventh straight win for the Vikings (11-8, 2-0 Coast-North), who grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first and were off to the races.
Steven Grizzle picked up the first of his three RBI with a first inning double, and Kyle Riveron roped a two-run double. Riveron scored the fourth run when he came home on a perfectly-executed double steal with Henry Wright, who had reached on an E3.
The Vikings sent 12 players to the plate in the second, scoring eight runs, highlighted by a Grizzle two-run single, a Riveron RBI single, a Wright two-run double and a Jacob Dressler RBI single.
Curran Ozawa-Burns launched his team-leading fifth homer of the season in the fifth, a two-run shot to left that scored Jonathan Teschner, who had singled.
WVC added two runs in the seventh and eighth, taking advantage of a quartet of errors by the Rams (2-14, 0-2).
Riveron finished the afternoon 3-3 with three RBI and a pair of doubles, Grizzle was 2-4 with three RBI, while Wright laced a two-run double, Franklin Ngai went 2-2 with two RBI and a double and Pako Vehikite was 2-5 with three runs scored.
Starter Luke Short picked up the win, going five innings with four K's and four hits. Short was backed by flawless middle relievers Amrin Dhillon and Erik Peterson, who gave up no runs on a combined two hits in three innings of work. Jake De Fiore earned the save, striking out two Rams in the ninth.
West Valley opens a two-game series at Skyline (13-4, 1-1) Saturday (3/7) and then at Valhalla Tuesday (3/10). First pitch Saturday is 1:00pm and 2:30pm Tuesday.
