The West Valley baseball team celebrated its return to Valhalla with a pair of dominant wins over Cañada Saturday. Coach Rick Wiens' squad looked in mid-season form as they took game one 6-0 and game two 11-2, thanks to a huge day from Curran Ozawa-Burns and a deep pitching staff.

Ozawa-Burns was nearly unstoppable, going a combined 7-8 with five RBI, a double and a triple on the day. After Zachary Apostolo gave the Vikings the only run they would need in game one by drawing a bases-loaded walk in the first, Ozawa-Burns went to work. He roped a two-run triple off the left field fence in the bottom of the second that knocked in Caleb Rodriguez and Jacob Dressler, and then put the game away with an RBI-double in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Sleeman picked up the win on the mound, scattering two hits and striking out four in four innings of work. James Hoyt earned the save, giving up a pair of hits and striking out two in the final three innings.

Game two started just a bit differently. The Colts grabbed a 2-0 lead on a Dom Meza two-run homer in the opening stanza. Viking starter Luke Short then settled down, throwing three scoreless innings and striking out five Colts. The Vikings got rolling offensively in the fifth inning. They batted around and scored five runs on six hits, highlighted by a two-run double from Aran Cox and J.J. Alegria's two-run single. WVC added another run in the seventh when Henry Wright clubbed a one-out homer to deep right. Wright added an RBI-single in a four-run Viking eighth. An Ozawa-Burns two-run double made it 11-2.

Ozawa-Burns finished the nitecap 4-5 with two RBI, while Wright was 3-6 with three runs scored and two RBI and Cox went 2-4 with three RBI. Viking hurlers Short, Michael Dixson, Erik Peterson, Jake De Fiore and Matt Atencio held Cañada scoreless on three hits with 12 K's in the last eight innings. Dixson picked up the win.
