MVP Ozawa-Burns heads quartet of Viking All-Coast selections

Curran Ozawa-Burns, recently named to the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association All-State team, added more hardware to his trophy case this week. Ozawa-Burns was named the Coast-North Player of the Year and the DH on the All-Coast/North First Team. Joining Ozawa-Burns on the 16-player squad were Vikings Aran Cox, Ryan Sleeman and Henry Wright.

Ozawa-Burns led the Vikings in nine offensive categories: hits (42), doubles (8), triples (3), homers (6), RBI (28), walks (9) and a .462/.550/.813 slash line (AVG/OBP/SLG). He was second on the team with six stolen bases and his .462 average was second in the state. His six round-trippers placed him sixth among CCCAA batters.

Cox had a stellar freshman season in the outfield for WVC, slashing .301/.362/.425 with 22 hits, 1 HR, four doubles, a triple, 17 RBI, six stolen bases and no errors in 37 fielding opportunities. Outfielder Wright finished the year with a .344/.410/.500 slash line, 31 hits, six doubles, two HRs, 13 RBI, nine stolen bases and a .979 fielding %. Sleeman started six games on the mound for the Vikings. He went 1-1 with a .386 ERA, while recording 42 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched, good for a 10.8 K/9 mark. He surrendered only nine walks and gave up 27 hits.
