Vikings Blast MPC 4-0 in Fog-Shrouded Monterey

WVC at MPC

The West Valley men's soccer team improved to 5-0 in the Coast-North conference with a 4-0 shutout at foggy Monterey Peninsula College Tuesday night. The Vikings (9-2-1, 5-0-0) overcame a two-hour traffic-filled ride from Saratoga, a power outage that darkened the stadium for 30 minutes and a thick fog to pick up their fifth straight win. Alexis Rincon had a goal and a pair of assists to lead a WVC attack that spent the majority of the evening on the Lobo side of the pitch. Rincon opened the scoring in the 31st minute, heading in a Mathew Cannon cross. Cannon returned the favor seven minutes later, blasting in a Rincon pass from the top of the box. Pedro Silva headed in Rincon's perfect corner kick to make it 3-0 at 41'. Ronan Gillies converted a Kaivan Kavianpour pass at 63' to complete the scoring. Yannick Lamers kept the Lobos off the board for his 4th shutout of the year. The Vikings host De Anza (6-2-4, 1-1-3) Friday (10/13) at Dick Schwendinger Field. Kickoff is 4pm.
