Mortensen, Hatch lead Vikings to state championship meet in SoCal

The West Valley men's swimming team came up just short of a 2nd-straight Coast Conference championship with a 2nd-place finish at Las Positas College. Alec Mortensen picked up the Performance of the Meet award for his win in the 200 Free (1:40.32) and was joined by teammate Jacob Hatch as the High Scorers of the Meet. Mortensen has the state's best time in the 200 Free heading to this week's CCCAA State Championship at East LA College.

In addition to the 200 Free, Mortensen took the 100 Free (45.82) and the 200 IM (1:52.85). Hatch captured the 50 Free (21.46) and the 100 Back (51.30).

Viking relay teams took first in three events: the 200 Free (1:25.66 - Mortensen, Derek Hanel, Mario Almarza, Hatch), the 200 Medley (1:36.42 - Hatch, Mortensen, Bendeguz Aubeli, Hanel) and the 400 Free (3:07.06 - Hatch, Almarza, Hanel, Mortensen).
