
The West Valley men's water polo team continued its northern California dominance with an 18-6 win over Sierra in the championship of the CCCAA NorCal Regional Saturday night in Stockton. After dispatching Modesto 19-2 in the afternoon semifinal, the Vikings overwhelmed the Wolverines to advance to next weekend's state championship final four at Cuesta College. The Vikings improved to 29-3 and will enter the final four as the #1 north seed and will take on south #2 Long Beach (20-6) Friday (11/17). North #2 Sierra (16-8) faces defending state champ and #1 south seed Golden West (29-0) in the other semifinal.
The West Valley men's water polo team outlasted Long Beach 11-10 in double OT in this morning's CCCAA State Championship semifinal to advance to the championship tomorrow (11/18) at noon. Tyler Breen scored a pair of goals in the first OT and Ivan Stefanovic provided the clincher in OT number 2. The Vikings (31-2) will take on either #1 south seed Golden West (29-0) or #2 north seed Sierra (16-8) for the title.
The West Valley men's water polo team came up just short of the ultimate prize Saturday, falling 10-8 to Golden West in the 2017 CCCAA state championship game at Cuesta College. The Vikings (31-3) were paced by three goals from All-Tournament selection Sina Gonzalez Lara. Jafet Hernandez and Enrico De Munno had two goals each and GK Marko Kruska, also named to the All-Tournament team, came up with six saves. Golden West finished the year 31-0 and claimed the state title for the second consecutive year.
