Vikings Drop Pair of Tough Battles In Bakersfield

Enrico De Munno

After rampaging through NorCal's elite teams in early September, the West Valley men's water polo team headed to the prestigious Cuesta College Invitational (held in Bakersfield due to pool remodeling at Cuesta) to face squads destined for long playoff runs in November. The Vikings (9-3) fell to 2017 state champ Golden West 13-7 in Friday's morning opener despite a game-high ten saves from GK Marko Kruska and three goals from Francisco Vargas. In the afternoon headliner, Riverside found the back of the net five times in the fourth quarter for a 10-9 come-from-behind win over the Vikings. Kruska was again a wal in the cage with nine saves, while Enrico De Munno scored four goals. West Valley takes on the Big 8's San Joaquin Delta at 11:30am and American River at 1:50pm Saturday.
