Xavier Casabella scored four of his game-high six goals in the third period to lead the West Valley men's water polo team to a 16-9 CCCAA-opening home win against Las Positas Friday afternoon.

The eight-goal Viking third gave WVC a 13-9 lead after the teams battled to a 5-5 first half tie. In the fourth quarter, Casabella would add a pair of scores, Daniel Behar would tally one of his four goals, and keeper Alex De La Cruz Gamez would keep the Hawks off the board to clinch the win.

Casabella, given the day off by coach Willo Rodriguez as WVC's top goaltender, was a constant field threat in the second half as he personally outscored LPC 6-4. Alexander Swenson and Inigo Gonzalez both found the back of the net twice, and Jake Mendez rounded out the Viking scoring with a third-quarter goal.

Luca Cupoletti paced LPC with five goals, followed by Nick Ryan with three.
