The West Valley softball team routed Gavilan 11-1 in a key Coast Conference game Thursday afternoon in Gilroy. The five-inning, run-rule win kept the Vikings (15-12, 4-6 Coast-South) in the playoff hunt with six league contests remaining. Siobhan Taylor's three-run triple highlighted a six-run first and gave the Vikings all the runs they would need against the Rams (5-20, 1-10). Taylor led the offense with a 3-4, four RBI outing, while Malia Pula went 2-3 with a pair of doubles. Reina Maldonado picked up the win in the circle, scattering four hits and striking out five. WVC hosts league-leading Monterey Peninsula (25-4-1, 10-1) Tuesday (4/17) at 3:00pm.
