
Playing in Saratoga for the first time since Jan. 31, the West Valley softball team responded with 12-2 and 18-3 five-inning wins over Lassen Friday. Carinne Peterson blasted a two-run homer in the first, her second in two games, to set the stage for WVC's 13-hit attack in the 12-2 first game. Peterson finished 3-4 with three RBI, while Maricela Matos was 3-4 with an RBI double and Megumi Pennebaker closed out the Viking scoring with a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. Ava Gonzales picked up the complete-game win in the circle. Marissa Diaz keyed the game two win with a grand slam in a five run West Valley first. The Vikings (5-5, 0-1 Coast) picked up seven runs in the second, one in the third and five in the fourth on 17 hits. Gonzales went 3-3 with an RBI double and picked up the pitching win. Alexis Palmon hurled three strong innings of relief and had a double and triple in three at-bats. The Vikings travel to state #1 Monterey Peninsula (14-0, 1-0) Tuesday (3/5). First pitch is 3:00pm.
