The West Valley softball team got just enough offense Saturday for a 1-0, 2-0 doubleheader sweep of visiting College of the Sequoias. In the opener, the Vikings (10-11, 1-6 Coast-South) scored the only run they would need in the third inning. Angelina Molina reached on a catcher's interference call to open the inning. Molina advanced to third on Sierra Hillman's double to left and would score on Chancee Gaskin's sacrifice bunt. Ava Gonzales scattered six hits and struck out three Giants for the complete game win in the circle. Game two saw another strong pitching performance, this time a five-foot shutout from Alexis Palmon, and hits from eight different Vikings. Hillman scored the winning run in the third after reaching on an error, moving to third on a Carinne Peterson single to left, and coming home on a Maricela Matos SAC fly to center. WVC added an insurance run in the fifth on a Peterson sacrifice to left that knocked in Mya Galindo, who had singled to open the inning. West Valley hits the road Tuesday (3/26) for a 3:00pm Coast-crossover game at Chabot (1-11, 0-4 Coast-North).
