Peterson named CCCAA NorCal Player of the Week

GLENDORA - A pair of freshman were named the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association co-Players of the Week for Week #5. San Diego City College's Vanessa Tirado and West Valley College's Carinne Peterson took home the week's awards.

Vanessa Tirado | San Diego City College | Freshman | Shortstop Freshman shortstop Vanessa Tirado helped the Knights to a 2-1 week, with their lone loss coming in extra inning to conference rival San Diego Mesa College. On the week, Tirado went 8-for-11 (.727) at the plate, while posting a .786 on-base percentage. Tirado accounted for nearly a quarter of the runs scored by San Diego City on the weekend, with seven runs. Tirado also stole four bases, and was a perfect 15-for-15 in fielding opportunities in the middle infield. In a 9-8 win over Grossmont to start the week, Tirado was 2-for-3, scoring four runs, hitting a double, and stealing two out of her four bases on the week. Tirado prepped at St. Mary's High School in Stockton, CA. 

Carinne Peterson | West Valley College | Freshman | Third Base Vikings freshman third baseman Carinne Peterson had a big week at the plate for West Valley as they went 2-1. Peterson went 6-for-10 (.600) with six runs and six RBI. Peterson belted a pair of home runs on the week, and stole a base as she had one of her best weeks of the year. In a 12-2 win over Lassen College, Peterson went 3-for-4 at the dish, scoring three runs, driving in three runs, and hitting a big sacrifice fly. Peterson hails from Cupertino, CA where she prepped at Homestead High School.
