Eight Vikings earn All-Coast honors

Led by CCCFCA All-State first-teamer Cayla Williams, eight WVC softball team members were named to the 2021 All-Coast Conference squad. Joining Williams (P/1B) on the All-Coast First Team were Bianca Ceja (1B), Maddie Grissom (OF/P) and Tyavana Salazar (IF/P). Named to the Second Team were Michelle Gonzalez (OF), Hannah Hillman (SS) and Allie Whitfield (2B). Kianna Lum (C) was an Honorable Mention selection.

Williams led the Vikings with 20 hits, 16 RBI, one HR, five doubles, five stolen bases and a .488/.596/.683 slash line (AVG/OBP/SLG). In the circle, Williams picked up a team-high five wins with a 1.98 ERA and 49 K's in 67.1 innings of work. Ceja had 12 hits, 10 RBI, two doubles, one HR and a .387/.487/.548 slash line. Grissom led WVC with three HRs, including a pair of grand slams, along with three doubles, two triples, 15 RBI, a .378 AVG and 17 hits. Salazar banged out 15 hits, three doubles and six RBI.

Gonzalez had 13 hits, a triple, four RBI and slashed .317/.404/.366, while Viking leadoff hitter Hiilman finished the year with 12 hits, a double, four stolen bases and a .962 fielding %. Whitfield had 16 hits, six RBI and a .356 AVG, while Lum recorded a pair of doubles, three RBI, four stolen bases and a .985 fielding % behind the plate.

Gonzalez, Grissom, Salazar and Whitfield are all slated to return for the 2022 season.
