West Valley remained atop the rugged Coast Conference standings with a 12-3 win over Cabrillo in Aptos Thursday. Viking batters pummeled Seahawk pitchers for 20 hits, including five doubles and a homer, while a trio of WVC pitchers limited Cabrillo to three singles. The win improved West Valley to 28-1 overall, 5-0 in the Coast, while Cabrillo fell to 2-23-1 and 0-5.
Rylee Gomez remained on fire at the plate with a two-run double in the top of the 1st that drove in Jasmine Mixco, who reached on a walk, and Andrea DeJesus, who had singled up the middle. Gomez went to work again two innings later, keying a six-run Viking 3rd with a viscious blast over the centerfield fence that brought home Brianna Chambers Lee, who had led off the frame with a double off the left field fence. The long ball was a team-leading fourth of 2025 for Gomez, who would knock in her 5th run of the game with a single to left in the 7th.
The 7th was a prototyplical inning for the Vikings. They scored four runs on six hits that included a leadoff single from Raylene Cruz, followed, in order, by a Jessalyn Casillas double, and RBI-singles from Gabriella Diotalevi and Marissa Rodriguez. Mixco then ripped a one-out RBI-single, followed by the two-out, run-scoring Gomez single. The Seahawks went down in order in the home half of the 7th, capped by a game-ending three-pitch strikeout of Brisea Rivera by Ashlie Nakano.
Gomez finished 3-for-4 with five RBI, while DeJesus was 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and Casillas was a pefect 3-for-3 with a pair of runs, two doubles and an RBI. Chambers Lee, Diotalevi and Mixco each had two-hit outings. Alexis Bojorquez-Nava roped the fifth WVC double. West Valley's pitching "A-Team" of Amelia Sizemore, Anastasia Marquez and (Ashlie) Nakano scattered three singles over seven innings and struck out seven. Starter Sizemore improved to 4-0 on the year with the win in the circle. Nakano was particularly effective, giving up no runs, one hit and striking out six in 3.2 innings of work.
