Former West Valley Viking Vicky Piatt is one of the most recognizable coaches in collegiate softball. Her experience includes a successful college career at Cal, the National Pro Fast Pitch League, the USA National Softball team and the Olympic Games.
Her 2023 Vikings posted a 30-10 overall record, a 2nd-place Coast Conference finish, the 2nd-longest winning streak in the CCCAA, an undefeated March, a 18-1 regular season home mark, a CCCAA regional playoff series win, and placed ten players on the All-Coast team. The 30-10 overall and the 12-2 Coast records are the most in both categories since the 2015 Coast Champions went 30-9 and 13-3.
The Vikings were 12-0 in March and won 18 straight from March 1 through April 11. The winning streak, combined with wins over then-#2 Monterey Peninsula and #6 College of San Mateo, catapulted WVC to the #4 spot in the April 5 California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (CCCFCA) state poll. They would finish the year 7th in the state in the final CCCFCA poll (4/26). WVC went 18-1 at home in the regular season and didn't lose a Coast Conference contest at Viking Field. West Valley swept College of the Sequoias 4-1 and 10-1 in the opening round of the CCCAA NorCal regionals, its first playoff series victory since 2015.
As a member of the USA National Team, Vicky Galindo, as she was then known, represented the United States during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, where she won a silver medal. She was also a member of the national team for the 2007 World Cup and Pan American Games.
Galindo helped guide the National Team to a gold medal at the 2006 World Championships in Beijing. In 2005, she earned a gold medal at the Pan Am qualifier and helped the team to a silver medal in the inaugural World Cup.
Also in 2005, Galindo led the Cal Golden Bears to the Women’s College World Series. She was a first team All-America, a first team Easton All-America, a Pac-10 All-Conference honoree and a Player of the Year candidate.
In 2004, Galindo and the Bears were WCWS runner-ups. The third baseman earned WCWS All-Tournament honors as well as first team All-America honors, first team Easton All-America honors, first team All-Region honors and second team All-Pac-10 honors. She joined the USA Schutt Elite Team in 2004, guiding the team to championships in the Canada Cup and the Champions Cup. That same year, she was on the National Team that won a silver medal at the Japan Cup.
Galindo played for the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fast Pitch team and was named to the NPF All-Star team from 2005-07.
Prior to playing for Cal, Galindo played a year at West Valley College, leading the team to the 2002 CCCAA State Championship. Galindo earned All-American honors and was a first team All-League selection in 2002.
