The West Valley women's soccer team blanked crosstown rival Evergreen Valley 3-0 in a key Coast Conference battle Friday at Dick Schwendinger Field. The Vikings (5-7-1, 2-2 Coast) moved to within a game of the front-running Hawks (5-7-0, 3-1) on the strength of their best overall performance of 2019. Nicole Nunes broke open a scoreless tie with a 40th-minute goal off an assist from Lindsey Heen. Ten minutes later, Ayanna Rubio converted a Sara Prough cross for a 2-0 Viking lead. Danielle Wheeler put it away at 57' on a Rubio assist. WVC keeper Sophia Ulloa recorded the clean sheet, turning away four Hawk shots-on-goal. West Valley heads to De Anza (3-5-1, 0-3-0) Tuesday (10/15) for a 3:00pm game against the Dons.
