Nunes strikes gold with USA Deaf National Team

The United States Deaf National Team topped Poland in the championship of the recent Deaflympics in Coxia do Sul, Brazil for its fourth Deaf World Cup title ('05, '90, '13, '22). Helping the USA bring home the gold was 2022 West Valley graduate, Nicole Nunes

"I was super excited for Nicole to be representing the USA in Brazil," said WVC coach Jennifer Kerwin. "Her hard work and dedication these last few years paid of with this wonderful opportunity."

Nunes was a key to WVC's back-to-back playoff berths during her Viking career. In 2019, she was 2nd on the team, along with Sara Prough and Danielle Wheeler, with six goals to help the Vikings to the second round of the CCCAA playoffs.

The Santa Clara High School product joins Wheeler (2016) as the second Viking on the Deaf National Team. A 2021 CCCSCA Scholar Athlete, Nunes will be continuing her academic career at San José St. in the fall.
