The West Valley women's soccer team had some second-half scoring chances, but couldn't capitalize in a 2-0 loss to City College of San Francisco Friday in their Coast Conference home opener at Dick Schwendinger Field.

After conceding a 13th-minute goal to CCSF's Alexandra Arouxet Jara, the Vikings battled on even terms with the 15th-ranked Rams. West Valley (3-9-0, 1-1-0 Coast South) had four scoring opportunities in the second half and Viking keeper Veronica Cook made a trio of big saves to keep it 1-0. The Rams (8-2-1, 2-0-0 CS) put it away on an Iliana Sanchez goal in the 81st minute.

Cook turned away eight CCSF shots to pace the WVC stat sheet.

West Valley hosts Evergreen Valley (2-6-2, 0-2-0 Coast North) October 11. Kickoff is 4:00pm.
