The West Valley women's soccer team grabbed its first win of 2023 thanks to Emily Garcia's goal and assist at Diablo Valley College Sept. 15. The 2-1 win in the "Battle of the Vikings" improved WVC to 1-3-1 on the year heading to a pair of tough games this week against two more Big 8 Conference foes, Folsom Lake (4-0-1) and Modesto (3-2-2).

Natalia Barrera put the Vikings on the board off a Garcia feed in the 26th minute. West Valley made it 2-0 at the break on an unassisted goal from Garcia at 34'. DVC (3-3-0) made it close with a Karol Esquivuas goal with 14 minutes left. WVC outshot DVC 14-1; Amanda Lien picked up the win in goal.

The Vikings host Folsom Lake Tuesday, 9/19 at 4:00pm at Dick Schwendinger Field and then travel to Modesto 9/22 to take on the Pirates. Kickoff is 2:00pm.
