Jennifer Kerwin started the women’s soccer program at West Valley College in 1996. Over the past 27 seasons, she has led the Vikings to four Coast Conference titles, 18 NorCal playoff berths and one final four appearance. She was named Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2002, 2004 and 2013 and, in 2004, was also the Adidas/NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year. In the final Adidas/NSCAA National rankings for community colleges, West Valley was ranked 7th in 2004 and 12th in 2005 and two Vikings have been named to the NSCAA All-America team. In 2022, Viking forward Nicole Nunes earned a roster spot on the USA Deaf National Team that won the World Cup in Brazil.
Since 2017 (there was no 2020 season), 44 Vikings have earned All-Coast Conference 1st-team, 2nd-team or Honorable Mention honors, including back-to-back Coast Goalkeepers of the Year, McKinly Yeager (2017) and Samantha Coelho (2018).
Academic success is of high importance in Kerwin's program. Dozens of her players have been named to the California Community College Soccer Coaches Association (CCCSCA) Scholar-Athlete team, including 12 from the 2021 team alone. Iliana Jasso (2021) and Megan Sequeira (2018) received the prestigious United Soccer Coaches Scholar Athlete award.
Kerwin has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education/Athletic Training from Canisius College and a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from the University of New Mexico. She holds a USSF BII License and a NSCAA National Diploma.
