Viking swim leads all 2020 NorCal teams with the state's fastest times in three CCCAA events

2020 fastest Swimmers

The California Community College Athletic Association swimming season didn't hold a state championship meet in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. That, however, didn't prevent the West Valley women's swimming team from posting the state's fastest times in three events, the second fastest time in one event and the third fastest time in yet two more events, according to release published by the CCCAA this week. The three top times were more than any other NorCal or Coast Conference program and the six total top three finishes were more than all other Coast teams combined.

Viking freshman Heather Gray dominated the CCCAA Butterfly events, posting the top times in the 100 Butterfly (58:97) and the 200 Butterfly (2:16.17). Gray was also on the 400 Freestyle Relay team with Sierra Ceballos, Alexis Goldin and Maria Higginbotham that posted a state-best time of 3:50.84. Higginbotham was third fastest in the state in the 500 Freestyle (5:33.10). Ceballos, Goldin, Gray and Higginbotham teamed up for a second-best 1;56.50 in the 200 Medley Relay and a third-best 4:18.44 in the 400 Medley.
