Marie Lucquet rallied from behind in the second half of the race to win the 400 IM state championship by an epic 12.64 over Fullerton's Anoushka Jaievsky Friday at East Los Angeles College. Lucquet's 4:42.04 was more than two seconds better than her previous PR, a state-best 4:44.23 set in April at the Coast Conference Championships at Las Positas College. Lucquet trailed Jaievsky until the 200-yard mark and pulled away for the convincing win.

The first-year swimmer from Sunnyvale was a member of West Valley's 2021 water polo state championship team and joins three-time champion Sayeh Faridnia (2017-2018) and 2017 titleist Dominique Yoder as Viking women's swim state champions.
