Defending Coast Conference champion Vikings look to repeat in 2023

The West Valley men's and women's swim teams open the 2023 at the ultra-competive City College of San Francisco Invitational. It doesn't get any easier from there for the defending Coast Conference champions.

The CCSF Invite features the best from the Coast and the Big 8 and often sets the bar high for times from a variety of state championship contenders.

Schedule highlights for the Vikings include Feb. 17th's Coast Conference Kickoff at Ohlone College and the Hawk Invitational at Las Positas College March 31-April 1. The Coast Conference Championships are April 21-22 at Onhlone.

The WVC women's squad returns state qualifiers Kianna Melvin and Johanna Scheer, along with second-year stalwarts Alena Lepe, Fatima Gonzalez Garcia, Paige McKroskey and Gaby Thomas. Newcomers Gianna Bozzo, Gabrielle Clark, Hannah Edwards, Alex Harris, Taylor Hendricks, Ruthie Lax, Remini Jadro and Aiyana Mendoza provide depth to Coach Erika Vargas's Vikings.

On the men's side, state qualifier Alec Mortensen returns as a state title contender in the 200 IM, 100 Fly and 100 Free. He'll be joined by second-year swimmers Mario Almarza, Bendeguz Aubeli, Hamish Bonnar, Ante Buzov, Eric Ellison, Dominick Fanelli, Jacob Hatch, Gojko Kapovic, Jacob Muncy, Jacob Neitzel, Togan Ozbek, Kai Seed, Jordan Will and Carlos Zayola.
