Vikings swim to 2nd straight Coast Championship, head to LA for state meet

Fittingly, for a squad made up of players from the water polo team, it was the relay teams that carried the West Valley women's swim team to its second consecutive Coast Conference championship at Ohlone College. The Vikings outscored runner-up Las Positas 726 to 431 to claim the team title. The Vikings now head to this week's CCCAA championships at East LA College.

Johanna Scheer swam to the title in the 200 Free (2:00.8), outdueling teammate Kianna Melvin by :02.96. Scheer was the anchor leg on three championship relay teams: the 200 Free (1:41.67 - Hannah Edwards, Alex Harris, Aiyana Mendoza, Scheer), the 400 Free (3:45.31 - Edwards, Harris, Melvin, Scheer) and the 800 Free (8:12.98 - Edwards, Harris, Melvin, Scheer). She was also on the championship 200 Medley team: (1:52.24 - Harris, Scheer, Paige McKroskey, Edwards).
