A monumental comeback elevated the West Valley volleyball team to a stunning 3-2 win over Gavilan Wednesday night in Saratoga. The two teams tied atop the Coast-South with 7-1 records staged a roller coaster ride of a match for the big crowd at the WVC Main Gymnasium. The Vikings won their seventh straight contest after dropping the first two sets, 21-25 and 20-25, and, after capturing the third 25-21, digging themselves out of an 18-13 hole to win the fourth 25-23.

West Valley (17-7, 8-1 Coast-South) held a 12-8 lead in the fifth set before the Rams (11-12, 7-2) reeled off five straight points to lead 13-12. A service error evened it at 13-13 and a Ram attack error gave the Vikings match point at 14-13. A Flo Tukuaoga kill knotted it up at 14-14, but Hannah Moore connected on a swing for her 14th kill of the night and a second WVC match point at 15-14 with Hannah Reynoso serving. Reynoso's serve was hard to handle and the Rams sent it into the net to give the Vikings the 16-14 win and touching off a raucous partisan celebration on the court.

The fourth set was equally epic. Trailing the entire set, the Vikings grabbed their first lead at 22-21 on a Moore from Audrey Fernandez kill. The teams traded side outs until Jaida Ward sent a pass across the court from the back corner that Rene Wash crushed for a 24-23 lead. Reynoso served for the set and a Ram attack error gave the Vikings a 25-23 win.

Moore paced the Viking stat chart with 14 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Wash finished with 12 kills and 2.5 blocks, and Aaryan Hashimi had five blocks to go along with 10 kills. Reynoso was a defensive stalwart, coming up with 21 digs and serving up a team-high four aces. Della Trimble handed out 26 assists, followed by 20 from Fernandez. West Valley closes out the regular season home schedule Nov. 13 against De Anza (15-8, 6-2). First serve is 6:30pm.
