Bergantz to head east, play indoor for NCAA D3 Clarkson

Viking libero Alex Bergantz has signed with Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, WVC coach Armen Zakarian recently announced. Bergantz transfered from Coast rival Gavilan College prior to the 2020 indoor season that was erased by the pandemic. Despite not appearing in an indoor match, Bergantz has been one of the top scholar-athletes in the Viking athletic department and is transfering to Clarkson with her volleyball and academic goals still intact.

"Alex's story is unique and one that proves that your pathway may not always be the smoothest, but it's what you do along the way that ultimately defines you," said Zakarian. "She came to West Valley with the goal of competing at a high level with our indoor team. While the pandemic may have stopped her from achieving that goal, she still earned her way to the next level, and we couldn't be happier for her."

Bergants is currently teaming with Keilli Voss for Viking beach. The pair swept Feather River's Hannah Parisio and Jessica Hickel 21-12, 21-14 in a 5's match April 7.

Clarkson University is a nationally-recognized interdisciplinary research institution in northern New York close to the US/Canadian border. The Golden Knights are members of the NCAA D3 Liberty League. Knights volleyball is coached by Carol LaMarche, who guided CU to the NCAA D3 Elite Eight with a 28-6 record in 2019, their last season of competition.
