The West Valley volleyball team opened Coast Conference action with a big 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14 road win at Monterey Peninsula College Friday night. The Vikings (6-9, 1-0 Coast South) got big matches from front-line mates Kiana Manson and Tristin Sahlie to secure the win over the always-tough Lobos (9-4, 0-1).

Manson and Sahlie controlled the net with 13 and 11 kills, respectively, to counter a match-high 20 from MPC's Kylee Moore. The Viking defense played maybe its best match of the season behind 23 digs from Flor Porras and 14 from Devin Derecho. Gabrielle Carbonel had 22 assists, while Sydney Rogers handed out 19. Brooke Lopez and Carbonel each served up three aces.

The Coast Conference road show continues for the Vikings with an Oct. 19 trip to City College of San Francisco. First serve is 6:30pm.
