The West Valley volleyball team swept a motivated Monterey Peninsula side in a battle of the two top teams in the Coast-South Conference Wednesday night in Saratoga. The 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 win was the sixth straight for the Vikings (10-9, 5-0 Coast-South) and vanquished any notion of revenge the Lobos (12-5, 3-2) had after falling at home to WVC on Oct. 14. Big play at the net and a brilliant defense keyed Wednesday night's win for West Valley.

The Vikings dropped the first point of set one, but were in control thereafter. Set two was a back-and-forth affair with both teams grabbing three-point leads before WVC pulled away at the end. Set three was all MPC at the start, with the Lobos jumping out to an 8-1 lead and forcing WVC coach Armen Zakarian into a time out. The break worked, as WVC tied it at 8-8 and then took an 11-10 lead after trading side-outs. Alex Franklin, Kiana Manson and Flor Porras took control after that, connecting on kills and, for Porras, defending nearly every attempt from the Lobos.

Franklin and Manson led the offense with 16 kills each, while Porras came up with a match-high 21 digs and three service aces. Nunu Saulala recorded three solo blocks, and Sydney Rogers handed out 18 assists followed by Gabrielle Carbonel with 16.

The Vikings host City College of San Francisco (8-7, 1-3) Friday (11/4). First serve is 6:30pm.
